V50 Comeback - Week 4 - The sudden stop

2 Weeks of eating pretty clean. Minimal snacks, minimal booze, low calory, steps in etc. etc. Net result - pretty much same fucking weight this morning haha - 70.1kg Straight fact is that diet will help but miles make the diet. I need to go from 35 to 50-60 no getting around it. I much prefer doing 5 run days per week but I think I need to add in some super easy running to get the fat burning, simple as that. Still a few aches and pains. Right achilies and foot I am very confident is cleared up now. Left foot I am pretty confident won't be an issue. The only thing I am hessitant about is my left glute / piriformis so paying extra close attention to that. Plan this week. Just roll the easy miles easy, lift it slightly and based on everything happening I will keep the 2 sessions fully under control. I have 3 paces I work to. So 1500 pace for example - pace is 74 per 400. Target pace is 72 and stretch pace is 69. This week I will favor staying closer to pace which is what I would run ...

V50 Comeback - Week 3 (The science part)

Writing the start of this post on a Sunday evening so technically still week 2! Going to take a more scientific approach to recording progress. I think I have to look at these factors and not just weekly mileage or paces. Weight Talking to Slater and it's obvious that at 67kg with around 18% body fat that is around 12kg of fat that I am carrying. IF I can get this down to around 10% that is 6kg of fat. This is a healthy BMI. I am currently 22.7 BMI and losing the fat would take me to around 9 st 10 lbs which would be around 21 BMI so I don't think this is crazy thing to look at. I cannot build a big enough engine at this weight to run quick enough. This is a final shot here, I have discussed it many times over the years BUT I have to sort that diet now and get the excess fat off. If I can currently run around 17.25 at 67.3 kg then loosing 5 kg would give me 16.20 for same effort. Possibly ambitious but I can see that. SO - without going crazy I need to track and loose weight in...

V50 Comeback - Week 2

Another week rolls around and I'm away for the majority and have a session planned on Saturday (drinking NOT running). Do not believe I'll top 40 miles to keep the trend going! Tuesday July 22nd Warm up 2 miles and cool down 2 miles. Session day off a rest day and as usual legs feel bleugh! Plan was 2k, 1 mile, 1200, 800, 400 (basically drop a lap each rep) but I hit a wall on the 1200 and failled. Legs were not responsive and I definately felkt like I got the worst of GPS signal as paces felt quicker. 2k - 5.44/mm (7.08) - 153 bpm 1 mile - 5.39/mm - 161 bpm 0.12 - 5.47/mm 800m - 5.15/mm (2.37) - 152 bpm 400m - 5.11/mm (78) - 148 bpm Felt heavy and wore Saucony EE2 but was moving fairly well and main thing was no ankle pain. Wednesday Very tired run, everything ached. Few days of eating badly and booze and it hit me pretty hard. 7 miles @ 8.19/mm for 134 bpm. All on trail and soft fluffy grass so expected that. Thursday Planning to session tomorrow so an additional easy run. Un...

V50 Comeback - Week 1

Don't call it a comeback ... Played this tune straight after hitting 16.59 at Peterborough 5k series on my first half decent race after giving up triathlon and cycling in 2019. My first race as a runner again since 2013. 6 years later and the gap is the same. This song is going straight on my ride home once I get half decent fitness again! Monday 14th July 2025 Rest day. Ease the legs. Massage with Jenny - tight hammys still and back is shredded. Calfs easing. Area around achillies tight. Still need some focus on loosening these things off before I get bouncy but lets face it. I'm not going to build back without getting some soreness. Hyperbaric chamber in the afternoon. Bit weird and lets face it, a single session won't save much. Ate shit all day - not great. Tuesday Weight in 67.2 kg which is great considering. Back on tracking - food and running. Keen to jog this morning but need to keep my ammo dry whilst I rebuild. Patience. Leg feels OK. Nothing major just usual work...

Is It Actually Happening ??

After a weeks break from running, it feels today that it may - whisper it - may be on the upwards trajectory. After seeing Tom on Wednesday, I got the update that the achillies is healing BUT I have an issue with the peroneal nerve & tendon. Makes sense as soreness is around side of ankle. Parkrun today - it felt not amazing BUT it wasn't horiffic. Obviously the time and effort were (8/10 and 20:51). Finished day with a gym session (annoyingly strength room still closed for exams) BUT I am starting to feel like I am finally on the way up. I am wary of typing this as I have done so many times in the past 10 weeks but it did feel different today. Not sure where it leaves me, I'll gym tomorrow and the try another run on Monday. It's about time as I am balloning in weight now and need to get back to it even if just for the sake of my mental and physical health. No targets just to run pain free and be able to do plyometrics. Sunday 15th June - Fathers Day Legs feel bob on to...

Achillies Update

So, no point harping on, here's the skinny - June 8th 2024 - Achillies goes from being super tight to properly going. Signs were there but I tried to run through. June 17th 2024 - Return, start to run but still not right and stop again. June 28 & June 29 2024 - Start again. Feels better but not right again. July 4th - restart and resume.  July 8th - some pace work (1.5 miles @ 5.37/mm) start to feel tight calfs - a sign that achillies has cleared. July 15 - 24th - 70 mile week.  July 23 - still feel achillies but double with a session. Sessions at track resume. August 7th - notice an achillies grumble. Back into full training. Calf calves calfs tight. August 13th - notice that it's best yet on track. August 29th - First time I felt back on top of things and moving well. --------------------- That's first stage --------------------- December 3rd 2024 - Session at Eddington. Achillies is really sore. From here on it's a rebuild. 4 days off, run and it's OK. Sessio...
