Weight Loss and Running Power with Stryd

Interesting one, and certainly contentious at the minute. Does weight loss affect running performance? Massive problem in the athletics world (mainly for female athletes) who feel they've been bullied into feeling self conscious about their appearance and feeling pressure to take drastic measures to loose weight. Mainly from old school male coaches who have limited skills on dealing with the modern athletes feelings!  Most obviously less excess weight means less to carry around so for the same effort you will run quicker. I use the rough formula of 3 secs per mile per lb of weight you loose. Disclaimer time - again a fairly obvious one - you have to get enough nutrition in ! Loosing weight needs to be done in a healthy way without compromising your training and / or health. Starving yourself and not getting enough nutrition will 100% NOT make you faster in the long term. Run

First run for a week tonight.  6 miles @ 6.56 pace with DC around the wildlife park.  Really happy with that, wasn't easy but Im just hoping the fitness comes back fast.  This is what I was running before I got ill so just hoping to keep it here and bring the fitness right up.  Looking to get half marathon fit pretty quick.  I know the running will take care of itself and this Tri lark will be about bike power and swim technique for me. Aiming to run 50% of shedule this week and 2 x 6 miles is what todays said so day one is checked :) Tomorrow will go to the track and do a bit, maybe 6 x 400 or something to tick the legs over.  Time to get serious now and head towards some races in shape.
