Invincible Test 1 week on

If I am honest, I can't remember how I felt about them initially - lol  4 runs in and the review is - hmm personally they just come across as too soft. It's impossible to get any pace in them, it's hard work to get any return. If you're looking for a daily trainer stick with the Tempos. If you are looking at a recovery run trainer - these do fit the bill there. I would say for a slow shoe they have brillant comfort but they seem like a luxury addition to a rotation for anyone running less than 60 miles per week or running less than 8/mm regularly. So that's me, I'll keep them in the rotation for VERY easy shakeouts. Easy runs I'll probably stick to the tempos to be fair or more likely just run out the foam on my VF. I actually need to start to log miles in trainers now as a few pairs are getting quite tired. My VFs really seem like hard work compared to the Adios and AFs. As I said earlier probably good for easy runs now as they give me an artifical confiden

Nike ZoomX Invincible Review

Image
At last a useful blog! Today I finally got hold of the Invincibles, these are the shoes I've been really keen to get hold of as they in theory are the new injury proof shoes in the Nike line up. Back in 2008 I had crippling shin splints. I literally could not run a step without agony. I was just (re) starting after Berlin marathon (3.30) but I could not get out and train for love nor money. In a last desperate attempt before calling it a day I googled the softest, most cushioned trainers and found the Nike Vomero. Back then these were like running on clouds. Absolutely amazing. They weighed a ton but straight out of the box I had zero shin splints. Every time I have had an injury since I've tried newer versions of the Vomero but none of them have remotely come close to the cushioning of the originals. They were proper mileage munchers.  Within 6 weeks I was back with zero shin problems and able to wear other shoes again. 4 month after getting them out the box I ran a 3 hour mar

Slowly Slowly Catchy Monkey

Things are bubbling along nicely now. I've hit a few bumps along the way but finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. I know realistically I don't got too many comebacks left in me. This one really has to be something else and to get that I need to run freely and smoothly. One kick in the nads is not doing enough strength work. I really need to up my game and even get 15-20 mins in a day.  Monday I did zero mobility before my run and it was shocking. If I don't do mobility, I'll cause niggles. If I don't do strength, I'll need to do more mobility. Bit of a break through today, first morning that I have woken up and didn't feel horrific. In fact, I'd say I wasn't a million miles of being ready to run (ok, maybe a slow shuffle but a big improvement !!) As usual, not possible to pin point the exact reason BUT I did change a few things yesterday. In order of most likely to contribute to feeling easier ... * Protein shake before bed. A

Week 2 #done

Second week in the bag, it's absolutely flown by. Doesn't feel like 7 days ago I was back here looking over the training log. First up, I absolutely thrive on consistent training. I even try to get my runs done at the same time. This week I upped an extra day as well as keeping things similar on the other run days. The key has been running VERY easy on easy days, getting one mini session in, a longer run and a steady run.  On top of that I got 3 solid lower back strength sessions in (well 2, I have another one to do tonight!!) I'm really please with how things have progressed. Every run has seen an increase in pace and a decrease in heart rate. I'll most likely follow the same routine this week and again just sprinkle a little extra mileage in to add to the conditioning. So stats for the week (last week in brackets) Miles - 38.0 (32.7) TSS - 328 (263) Pace - no idea, similar to last week probably avge 7.30/mm ! The achillies is still not quite right but the niggle has d

Onwards and upwards

This week is shaping up to be pretty decent.  Tuesday's run was pretty pony but at least I got it in the bag, Wednesday's session went better than expected and today (rested last week) was a bonus shakeout with the Mrs! Have to say Ange is starting to run bloody well. I would never have thought she would be getting her harder runs down to very low 8 min miles and almost just under! Her harder runs now blend in with my easy runs and she's run her 2 fastest 5k's within longer runs of 10k and 5 miles (26.26 and 26.18) in the last half a week. Mind blown!  Just goes to show that Daz Man maybe knows what he's talking about ;) that's 13 mins off her pb in just over a year! Anyway, back to the important stuff - me haha !! After 2 days off (1 of them just lazy) I got the lower back workout in today. I think this is going to be a big area of improvement. My whole core/glutes/hips/lower back I am really keen to stop having the old man aches every day and there's only

Threshold Proggy

The first comparison, week on week. The steady - threshold progression (hopefully becoming easy to steady by the end of this re-build block!) Just go now I'll do the quick and dirty analysis. Last week... 1.00  6:59  265w  142 bpm 1.00  6:43  282w  158 bpm 1.00  6:29  286w  160 bpm 1.00  6:13  299w  167 bpm 1.00  5:57  309w  170 bpm This week... 1.00  6:58  267w  140 bpm 1.00  6:43  283w  152 bpm 1.00  6:29  297w  157 bpm 1.00  6:10  308w  163 bpm 1.00  5:50  319w  168 bpm Clearly this week the HR was considerably better. Interestingly power was way up in the last 3 miles, last week was a faster day but today my HR was under much better control.  Progress !!! Pace wise this still felt hard, far too hard BUT I am hoping that over the weeks it becomes easier to maintain decent power - 290-300w again without killing myself. My lower back, hamstrings and glutes have been tight this week. I think really targeting the lower back is going to pay off massively. I already feel a bit better
