It had to happen

Dry, tickly throat last night and today I've come down with something. It had to happen, I managed to avoid all sorts of nasty shit at Christmas.  Feel poo today, no chance of running so take the zero day and hopefully wake up tomorrow feeling better. Not looking likely I'll get any quality in before the weekend so fingers crossed just bag a few easy miles tomorrow and Thurs. Not ideal, but I've not been ill for ages and it's not horrific (just yet). Doped myself to the gills on Lemsip so hopefully eat well, sleep well and recover. Can afford to back off the daily blogging now that hip seems to be improving.  Just need to get my head around this shit if it happens again.  I think I should try blogging something meaningful for here on in.  I'll think on it and have a few days off

Streak

5 day streak with today's run, longest since start of November. Felt OK, just a very easy run over the trails but nice to feel that things are definitely improving. It's crazy how up and down it goes.  After Friday's pain I had real doubts I was on the mend.  But good day - bad day is starting to slowly turn into longer streaks of good days.  Important not to do anything silly and fuck shit up but I do have aims and ambitions.  Shit, I am not getting any younger !! Weight was better today, back down to 10st 11lbs which is only a couple off where I got to when I was on a good run of form. Interesting looking at planning now, and the aim is much higher than previous.  The race to get back to proper fitness as quickly as possible just hitting those mile stones. Fingers crossed bank a sub 18 and then down towards 17.30 before the end of Feb.  From then on, I reckon I should be a t full steam and ready to put the sessions in. Focus will be around track and speed.  2 se

Week 1 #done

First week in the bag, back training 'properly'. As ever, things we're more than a little up and down.  Physically & emotionally, not literally, it's flat as shit around here!

W1D2 - traaaak

Track tonight.  Hip wasn't million % but good enough to try something. Tomorrow is *almost* certainly a rest day from running!

Week 1 Day 1 .... it begins

blah blah blah So we start the build phase and I consider myself back in training proper.  That means a weekly structure and targets etc. etc. So today the plan was actually just S&C (as I was planning hills yesterday). As I fucked myself up doing hills I did the S&C plus 4 miles.

Bit off more than I can chew

Felt pretty good today (pre-run) it's difficualt trying to manage the boys training along with my own as I know it's pretty boring - especially for Jake - doing longer winter stuff on his own. Parkrun with Lola & Sawyer first thing (just watching) then decided to go for Jakes hill session with him. The original plan was to run there, do 20 x crow hill in Cambourne then run home.  It's a bit much for him mileage wise so we drove to Cambourne then jogged straight to the hill and into the set.

Parkrun #26

Really couldn't be arsed this morning. 2 degrees and icy, pretty much everything local was cancelled so headed to Bedford. Got there late as parking was a disaster.

Long 'un

10k in 45 mins tonight. Longest run since November 10th ! Leg - OK, still a bit 'there' but wouldn't say causing any problems.  Felt a bit 'hmm' at 5.5 miles but eased off again.

More patience - so unlike me !!!

Planned to run tonight - would have been 3 days in a row.  Decided to be sensible and sack it off and do the rehab work instead. Really feels like it's coming back together.  Jesus there is a long way to go before I'm even running completely niggle free but it feels like things are heading in the right direction.

Double Bubble

Managed 2 in a row tonight.  Easy 5 around St Ives whilst the kids were at the track, but still, first double day (without issues) for a while. Maybe (just maybe) we are on the way back.  Need to focus on rehab tomorrow and a possible extra run with the boy.

A little bit of pace

5 progressive @ 6.48/mm up and down the hill.  Pretty decent for right now.  Actually about the sort of the pace that I need to average out at one easy - steady runs ~ 145-150 bpm.  Today was 156 bpm so fair chunk over but at 1060 beats per mile back down from where it was.

Good bad good bad

5 miles today at 7.05/mm with Ian around Cambourne.  To be fair it was shelling peas. Hip a little grumbly from about 2 miles but nothing developed and I ran without stopping for first time back.

2 steps forward etc. etc

Felt ok tonight pre-run.  Then I warmed up :( Hip flexor ached from the off.  Manged to drag myself around 5 miles. Admittedly, not as bad as some previous runs but it was def tired and lost a bit of power through the hip (like landing on a dead spot). Bit pissed off as was hoping to build but have to be patient and remain on the rehab plan.

Slowly Slowly

Feel better today, much better than of recent.  Last night's 5 miles @ bang on 7/mm was pretty good and the legs held up.  Last half mile or so fatigue crept in and the hip ached slightly but definitely best run back since mid-November. Tonight the plan is to run 5 in the middle of Jakes 8 miles, roughly 7.30 pace target but we'll see what happens.

More Ketchup

After jiggering my hip flexors on Friday's jog with Ange, I made a late decision to Parkrun Saturday.  Was aiming to be sensible and rest but want to get my 50 done by the end of this year.  I'm half way but considering I did my first one in 2010 that's a run rate of 2.5 per year so far!

Re-Re-Rehab

Day #2 Swindon parkrun. 19.21 p 13th. Lucky for some Easy warm up, park run @ 6.15/mm, slow cd Actually not that bad. Course is tough (18.13 best) and kept it consistent. In peg turbos, long sleeve & leggings. Jam on toast for brekky.  Felt ok, kept it in check. Don’t get me wrong, wasn’t loads in the tank but I wouldn’t be far off 18.15 at gt denham.
