Parkrun #26

Really couldn't be arsed this morning. 2 degrees and icy, pretty much everything local was cancelled so headed to Bedford.

Got there late as parking was a disaster.

Very short warm up and then into the race.

Started pretty hard but settled back quite quickly.  Bedford is known for crazy fast starts and today didn't disappoint. Probs 20th at the band stand.

Pretty relaxed up the hill the first time.  Peg back a few early starters.  I'm layered up in leggins, long sleeve & gilet.  The HRM has already been dropped - cannot get a read on parkruns as it just slips and too much of a faff to get back straight.

End of the first mile start to edge towards John's group, relax down the hill and first lap at 5.57/mm avge. Nice.

Feel good so push on. Conscious the second mile can take a hammering with the hill.  Passing people again and into 4th.  Stay there until the finish with a decent bit of space around me.

Past the band stand and start to hit lots of traffic.  Must be a huge turnout today.  Pass 2nd lap and quick check - 5.50/mm overall avge - nice!

Start to tire a bit now, lack of conditioning really creeping in.  Hill is a struggle, the run in to the finish is pretty relaxed though and can push without killing myself.

Stop watch on 18.17 - 5.49/mm avge which is pretty decent considering the layers and the course and weather.  Wanted sub 19 but ideally 18.30 so very happy with that.  Probs just sneak under 18 mins at Gt Denham.

Pretty pleased with that off limited rehab training.  Next week start proper.  No major hip issues.  Started to ache a bit after 2 miles but no real problems.

Hopefully relax tonight and get an easy 5-6 miles in tomorrow for a solid week progress.
