Stepping up

So, after Saturdays nightmare ride it was suffer Sunday !! 24 miles with Stevie B and the monkey boy. Really dreading this having not done nearly enough long runs. But I swear by this in marathon prep and it's never let me down the last 3 marathons I've done. Well, they've all been shit but running like a twat and not distance was the problem!

Set off nice and easy from Godmanchester. Blah blah long story very short. Easy opening miles, hold back pace, farmers field, shitty trainers, Kye fucks off with Lucozade, big hills, car drivers being twats, wind, torrential rain, avoid puddles, more hills, give up avoiding puddles, lots of mud, feel better, smash quads on downhill, big laugh at previous en-route shit stop, bad patch, big hill, co-op stop, cramp, couple of easy miles, torrential rain, hail stones, done. 3 hrs 4 mins for 7.39/mm avge. Not fast but route was not easy so over the moon with that considering the running I've done.

Didn't hit bad patch till 18 miles and by 21 was pretty OK so marathon prep is all but done now after that. Engine in good shape but could do with sticking some quality miles in to rev it up a bit. Love a car analogy me!

So big weekend ended up with a 70 mile horror ride and a good 24 mile run. Not exactly what I was after but you fucking do 7 hours training in 2 days and show me how it's done :)

Monday - easy swim. Nearly drowned as was surprisingly tired. Lots of work, lots of food.

Tuesday - 1 mile run, achillies flare up, put a hat on it and called her a rest day.

Wednesday - 75 min easy turbo (23.5 miles). Found saddle 3cm too far forward when I set the bike on the turbo. Flashback to conversation with Ian on Friday night - don't fuck about with your bike the day before a big ride. Flash back again to me taking saddle off to clean it up and lift the front. Look at saddle 3cm too far forward. Slap forehead. #cock

Tonight - 8 miles with Stevie B, 52.03. 6:30/mm average. Blinding run from Stevie, he looked strong all the way. For me, best run in a long while. Body held up well and felt so easy it was untrue. Going to try and keep these runs in now at this pace as that should equate to marathon target. Happy days with this bad boy as it was bloody windy out there tonight and cold. Fucking cold, sick of it! 40 min rub down from Stevie afterwards and good banter.

So, snow forecast so no idea what to do on the bike??? Will prob do an hour on the turbo each day to make up some miles but I need long rides to keep the endurance topped up. Not happy with this weather, seriously fucking me off. Paris in 2 1/2 weeks is looking good, keep up the steady runs between 60/90 mins alternating easy and steady / hard. No track from now, too much of a risk.
