Getting Real

Lunch time run today, 4 miles very, very easy. After going slightly further than planned yesterday, and with a long run pencilled in for tomorrow, today was only ever going to be 4/5 recovery anyways.

Racing Sunday in the Frostbite Friendly league at Priory Park St Neots. Last couple of years have gone 34th and 11th there - both pretty good runs at the time, and I hope this year is another good one.

The plan was to use this race as a sharpener for a decent crack at a time for Peterborough half. Am in a pretty dark place with training at the minute, where almost every run is a struggle and even recovery runs are taking their toll. It's a neccessary evil of base building - getting the legs toughened up, getting the head strong up and getting used to running through and pushing on.

This week has been a particular struggle. Today was really tough for the first 3 miles but actually felt ok towards the end. Will stretch and roll tonight and hopefully the legs will be fine tomorrow.

I actually like it when things are tough like this. When things do click it's nice to look back at how far you have come. Without the worst you can't enjoy the best !!

So this weekend, as much as I think about going and smashing out 5.30 pace over the cross country, realistically it's a stepping stone to getting some fast work done. Same as next weekend, it will be a decent paced long run. I still hope to go and smash it but realistically I am 4/6 hard weeks of getting some decent times banked. It's a long term plan and patience has to be there to get it right.

This month I have been really pleased to get a decent amount of miles in. Should be around 240 miles for this month. Next month I need to get plenty more in, towards the 300 mark. I know that's where the big gains are for me and from there I can start getting more comfortable at pace and start getting happy with racing.

Been a tough year but will be nice to finish it in style with a couple of (OA)pb's !
