Good Spell

Tuesday I started to run again after 3 days off. Was OK but felt hard work.

Felt pretty much the same on Wednesday, 12 miles @ 7.17 pace. HR was OK - 149 bpm for the run and never got too high. Felt a little lethargic but to be expected after not running much recently.

Today was aiming to do a tempo, HM effort tempo which should be fairly comfortable. Aiming to do longer tempos than the traditional 5 miles @ close to race effort. Started off with no Garmin signal but know this run like the back of my hand. Clicked first mile at same bench in 6:31 - not great as it felt quite hard and HR was up to 164 bpm by then. It was quite windy and the canal route to Dobbs Weir is a 3 mile out and back and wind was dead into first 3 miles!

2nd mile clicked off at 6:17 under the train bridge near Rye House dog track. Feeling a bit battered and HR needed to be looked at to keep down to 167 target.

3rd mile started fine as was out of wind but last 400m or so into wind really slowed to a 6:20 almost at a standstill.

Had to stop at half way, was absolutely battered by the wind and breathing hard. Also stopping on all runs at the minute just to have a quick, regular stretch of the hammys and hips. Do not want to get pig headed and take any risks.

Wind behind on the way back and felt so much easier. HR was still up 165 - 173 bpm for 6:15, 6:17, 6:08 splits. Wasn't really feeling into the session but got it done.

Overall avge 163 bpm for 6 miles in 37.56. Not bad, certainly pace wise a long way off where I want but considering I am still pre-marathon training theres scope to see that down to sub 6/mm by the time Jauary comes around.

Hip was a bit tired, certainly around joint today, not at flexor but where work was done! After a shower and food started to feel good and legs are OK now.

Going long Sunday so will do an easy run tomorrow then rest Saturday. Hopefully get a good paced run in Sunday to build some strength. Next week I am out Tuesday night and off to Dublin Thursday and not back till late Friday so will be a minefield getting runs done!

Christmas is always a difficault training period for me and it's all about making the most of what I can.

Was going to run tonight, jusrt a 3/4 mile leg shaker but as I am seeing the specialist tomorrow probably best to leave it. Get some good news and then crack on with the hard training!
