Back to P1

So this week I am returning to phase one - base training.

I really need to change up a bit, and I need some more strength.  Not a lot of point living on the edge of injury in November.

Last week or so, pace has been way better than usual.  Sunday trotted out just under 10 at 6.44/mm and Monday was a very easy 10k at 6.46/mm.  Plan for the next couple of weeks is steady mileage and build TSS through volume more than effort.  No reps, tempo efforts only to build it up.

Interesting observation today, had meat for first time (ish) in 10 days for lunch (southern chicken fillet with cheese sandwich - an old classic). Zonked out on the sofa for 90 mins afterwards knackered - first time since I layed off meat.  Will be interesting to see how the body feels on tonight's session.

So, back from session.  Warmed up, felt a little sluggish. Cold and wet #dogshite mile in 6.59.

Did drills as per normal, dicked about and set off. Felt a little leggy at the start so just ran pretty comfortably. Settled in just under 6/mm and passed first mile mid 5.50's. Downhill start so hardly inspiring.

Woke up a little and felt much better into 2nd mile.  Good old stop to cross the road helped ;)
Passed 2 miles at around 5.49/mm overall average so much quicker. Actually felt really good, this would be far too easy effort wise for anything 10k or under.

Pushed on around town, was a bit sketchy underfoot. Had a decent mile here and passed 5k at 5.44/mm avge for the run. Again, took my time crossing the road then last push up the hill.

Hard work but pace had dropped to 5.46/mm by the petrol station and stayed there until the end.

~4 miles in 22.56 @ 5:46/mm. Have to say, it really didn't feel that hard. Running to PE it felt like tempo should. Take the last uphill mile out and it would have been even easier. Good sign.

Mile easy cool down with DC & the track group for 10k in 38.20 ish.

So, hard to say if the chicken for lunch helped - I certainly felt better running but worse through the day - than normal.  Or is it the vegetarian-ism that's helped thus far.  Will most likely lay off meat tomorrow and before Thursday's session and see if it's just good form rather than a meat 'boost'.

Either way, enjoying some good form at the minute. Pace is crazy quick for every run at the minute - even easy is below 7s.

Foot is much better, still letting me know it's there (much like the shin) but it's not been painful for a few days. Touch wood on the mend.
